The Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM), the umbrella body of the Catholic Bishops in
Malawi has been holding its First Annual Plenary Meeting for the year 2017, from Monday, 23rd January to Friday; 27th January 2017.
The Meeting which was being held at the Catholic Secretariat in Lilongwe was attended by all
Catholic Bishops in Malawi and the Apostolic Nuncio to Zambia and Malawi, His
Excellency, Most Reverend Julio Murat.
According to a Press Statement released by the Secretary General of ECM, Rev. Fr. Henry Saindi, the meeting among other things, reflected on Centrality of Structures and Means of Catechesis in Malawi.
The statement further said the other aim was to discuss and endorse: Pax Investment Holding Company Limited Action Plan, Revised ECM Medical Scheme Policy, Catholic Secretariat Improvement Plan, Catholic Secretariat Investment Plan, Booklet on the Spirituality of the Diocesan Clergy in Malawi.
“The Bishops also discussed on the national Laity Committee for Seminaries’ Action Plan; Constitution of the Catholic Youth Council of Malawi; Constitution and Activities of the Society of St. Vincent De Paul,” reads the statement.
Moreover, they also discussed matters pertaining to priestly formation in Major Seminaries and later received update reports from the Catholic University of Malawi (CUNIMA) and a presentation on Current Political and Socio-Economic Landscape in Malawi.
“They also received reports from: Association of Diocesan Catholic Clergy in Malawi (ADCCOM), National Laity Council and the Catholic Women Organization (CWO),” said Fr. Saindi.
ECM holds its plenary meetings in January and June every year.
