Cardinal Njue arrives for AMECEA conference

DSCN6438His Eminence Cardinal John Njue has arrived in Malawi to attend the 18th AMECEA Plenary Conference that runs from July 16-26 at Bingu International Conference (BICC) in Lilongwe.

Cardinal Njue who is an Executive Board member of AMECEA was welcomed at Kamuzu International Airport by Vice President Saulos Chilima, Archbishop Tarsizious Ziyaye of Lilongwe Archdiocese who is the chair of the conference and AMECEA Secretary General Fr. Ferdinand Lugunzo.

Briefing the press at the airport, the Cardinal thanked Malawi Government for the warm hospitality and said such meetings provide the church with a great opportunity to discuss issues that are affecting it in the modern world.

In his remarks, His Grace Archbishop Ziyaye said Malawi is know as a God-fearing nation and this is the time show to that by way we behave in our family lives.

Ziyaye added that, “The church has to move from being on the missionaries and work towards finding its own means of source of finding revenue for its operations.”

Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) consists of eight countries namely Malawi, Kenya, Sudan, Tanzania, Eritrea, Zambia, Uganda and Ethiopia. AMECEA conferences are held every three years and its the third time Malawi is hosting the conference.
