CADECOM OFFICERS UNDERGO ICT TRAINING

By: Stella Zulu

The Catholic Development Commission diocesan officers have been trainied in Information and Communication Technology in order for them to improve their skills and capacity in information technology.

This training is one of SCIAF initiatives aimed at building the capacity of its Malawi partners supported with projects within the social development domain. The idea came about after carrying a partner assessment in which computer literacy emerged as one of the major skill gap. To address this knowledge gap, the National CADECOM organized the training for all diocesan officers to be equipped with the much needed skills in Microsoft Word and Excel packages which are so crucial in their day to day duties.

In his remarks during the opening of the training, CADECOM Programs Coordinator, Mr. Chimwemwe Phiri said this training is so important to the officers as it will improve their documentation skills.

“After the assessment and discussions in our monthly team meetings, we agreed that SCIAF should support the Malawian partner teams to improve their information technology skills and knowledge which will help them communicate with the outside world better and quickly. This is why National CADECOM with Funds from SCIAF organized this training for all diocesan CADECOM Officers”. Said Mr. Phiri.

In appreciation of the training, Mr. Enock Joseph Issa, Agricultural Officer from Dedza Diocese said the training was necessary and has been helpful in deepening his knowledge in ICT.

“the Skills gained will help me to write meaningful reports with improved data analysis which will assist my employer and donors to keep track of the work progress and see if the program and all projects implemented are addressing the intended goals.” Said Mr. Issa.

In agreement to that Mr. Gabriel Musaiwa, the field officer from Mangochi diocese said the training will help him in writing systematic and quality reports, documentation of field activities with proper calculations and providing proper statistics about projects.

The training was organized by the National CADECOM with funding from Scottish Church International Aid Fund (SCIAF) and it was held at the Catholic Secretariat with facilitation by the ECM Communications team.
