Bishop of Zomba Diocese, His Lordship Rt. Rev. Alfred Chaima, on 3rd January 2024, distributed relief items to five hundred households within the Catchment area of Lingoni Parish in Machinga under Zomba Diocese. The items include; maize flour and maize seeds courtesy of Missio Austria.
The beneficiaries were grateful for the timely assistance and prayed that more donors come up to assist as many people have nothing to eat and are sleeping on empty stomach. They also thanked the Administration of the Diocese for considering their plight.
Speaking during the exercise, Bishop Chaima urged the beneficiaries to use the relief items in their own homes and not sell them. He further encouraged them to plant drought resisting crops that can help should the maize crop fail with the sporadic rainfall experienced in many parts this year. “I also urge you, to plant trees and look after them in an effort to conserve forests and so curb the biting climatic changes and global warming trends that are grossly affecting the rain patterns and the global weather”.
The relief items have been made possible with aid from Missio Austria which came through the Pontifical Mission Office.
