APPOINTMENT OF ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR NGEYI KANYONGOLO AS THE THIRD VICE CHANCELLOR OF THE CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF MALAWI

The Episcopal Conference of Malawi, has today the 9th February 2024 appointed Associate Professor Ngeyi Ruth Kanyongolo as the Third Vice Chancellor of the Catholic University of Malawi with effect
from Tuesday, 5 th March, 2024.

Associate Professor Ngeyi Ruth Kanyongolo holds a number of qualifications including a
PhD in law from the University of Warwick (2007), a Master’s degree in Law from the
University of London (1997) and a Bachelor’s degree (Honours) from the University of
Malawi (1991). She began her career as a lecturer in law at the University of Malawi
(UNIMA) rising to Associate Professor of law before taking early retirement in 2023 from
the UNIMA.

Associate Prof Kanyongolo brings to CUNIMA vast experience in academia, an excellent
record in national and international networking, resource mobilization, research, consultancy,
community engagement and significant inclusive and transformative leadership skills.

During the 23 years of academia with the University of Malawi, Associate Professor Ngeyi
Ruth Kanyongolo served as a member of Senate, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Head of
Department and Patron of the Students’ Union. . She served on several University
Committees including committees on curriculum review, functional review, Conditions of
Service review and Strategic Plan Review. She also coordinated Research and Masters’
programme. Prior to joining the academia, she worked as the Assistant Registrar (Legal) for
the University of Malawi, servicing and representing the Council of the University.
