Promoting Missionary Formation in Children: PMS Commends Radio Maria Malawi

The Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) Malawi has expressed gratitude to Radio Maria Malawi for its continuous support in promoting mission work and missionary formation among children, through radio programs and other activities.
Fr. Peter Madeya, said this at St Augustine Cathedral, Mangochi Diocese, on behalf the National PMS Director during the celebration of the Radio’s 19 years of existence and preaching the Gospel in the country. This year’s commemoration was in a form of a choir festival for Catholic choirs in Malawi under the theme “Christian family, a school for missionary formation of children”.
“I want to appreciate the collaboration that exists between PMS and Radio Maria in promoting the Church’s missionary work by teaching the people, especially children, to pray, serve and give so that the Gospel of our Lord Jesus reaches everyone. We don’t take this for granted,” said Fr. Madeya, who is PMS Director for Dedza Diocese.
He also urged people of good will to support the Radio for its financial sustainability and help it in any way possible to spread the Gospel to many people in the country.
In his remarks National Director for Radio Maria Malawi, Fr. Joseph Kimu said it is within the philosophy and values of Radio Maria to teach people, especially the children, to do mission work.
“Radio Maria Malawi underscores the need to promote missionary service in children so that they may integrally and remain strong in faith in the midst of storms. For this reason, we dedicated most of our programs to children’s formation,” said Fr. Kimu
On each feast of Epiphany, Radio Maria Maria encourages children to pray, serve and contribute money for other children in need. Children from various parts of the country are given the opportunity to be presenters of radio programs, live on the Radio Maria, as part of mission formation.
Fr Kimu encouraged the general public to continue supporting the radio for the continuation of its work, acknowledging that the Radio station has limited resources.
Professor Richard Tambulasi, Guest of Honor at the occasion, also congratulated the Management and Staff of Radio Maria Malawi for working ceaselessly on voluntary basis and urged families to be exemplary to their children.
“Family is a nursery of religion. I urge all Christian parents to lead by example so that children may emulate them and so contribute positively to the development of the Catholic Church and the country at large,” said Prof. Tambulasi.
At least 30 choirs from the Dioceses of Chikwawa, Zomba, Dedza and the Archdioceses of Blantyre and Lilongwe participated in the choir festival, which was sponsored by PMS Malawi.
